Virtual Event with Brian Barth and Flávia Milhorance

Join us on Zoom on December 1, 2021 at 7:00pm ET.

Brazil’s Amazon region is often in the news, but we don’t often get a close up view of what’s actually happening on the ground. This year FERN was lucky enough to have two journalists who spent several weeks reporting from northwest Brazil.

Join us virtually on December 1 to hear directly from them about their amazing experiences and get a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to report from remote locales. Our event will feature Brian Barth, who is now based in California, and Flávia Milhorance, who is based in Rio de Janeiro, as they also delve into the fascinating subject of their reporting: agro-forestry and innovative rainforest ventures that provide a climate-saving alternative to cattle ranching and deforestation. We’ll also present some of the gorgeous photography from these stories by Flávia as well as Luisa Dörr.

As you’ll learn, the situation on the ground is complex, with land conflicts, powerful characters, politics and climate change figuring in the mix, but we’ll have time to unpack the situation during this engaging session.

Proceeds will benefit FERN, a non-profit news organization that produces high-impact explanatory and investigative reporting on food, agriculture and environmental health. Be a part of our success. And even if you can’t attend, you can still make a donation to support FERN! If you prefer to pay by check please alert us via email and send a check to FERN at 580 Fifth Ave., Ste. 820 New York NY 10036. This is a donor-only event.
